A dozen volunteers from FourLane spent the day at our charity office on Friday. The company wanted to give man hours in addition to making a generous donation. The day started with a check presentation for $6050 to For Every Child, Inc. president Julie Petrovic and her two daughters, who were also volunteering that day. The group quickly got to work writing out notes to be included in each ‘Hope Tote’ and then broke down into smaller groups to sort donated toiletries and clothing. “There are so many details that go into every tote,” explained Julie Petrovic, “Every pair of socks needs to be actually paired and we need toiletry bags packed, blankets rolled and tied with a ribbon, tags taken off the clothes and individual outfits picked out. Simply having the bag tags written out by size so the individual totes can go to the right children, makes packing each tote so much easier.” We had several creative volunteers decorate the bags so each child gets a special and unique tote. At the end of the day, the group decorated 64 totes, packed 58 toiletry bags, cut fabric to make 21 more toiletry bags, wrote 144 notes to be included in the totes, wrapped 24 blankets and paired too many socks and wrote too many bag tags to count. Preparing all of these tasks allowed the group to finish the day by packing 28 totes and leaving supplies ready for another 24 totes to be packed. Many thanks to FourLane, the employees and customers who donated, and to the volunteers who spent the day with us making a difference for several children in the Greater Austin Area!
